Check-In Notes

FRIDAY JULY 16  to SUNDAY JULY 18:
•       Come take a trip to Baltimore’s biggest and most wonderful and
delicious Farmers Market downtown. We will leave at 9am on Sunday, July 18th.
Sign up is Friday, July 16th at 5pm in the Meyerhoff
•       Hey Screen Printers! If you haven’t gotten contact paper from
Michael, you can still get it after check-in today in the Gatehouse.
•       Konnichiwa! Sumimasen. Learn these and other classic Japanese
one-liners at TARC Rebecca’s Japanese Language Workshop. Stacey, our
adorable, origami obsessed DA, will also be teaching some pretty sick origami
patterns. B.Y.O.P (bring your own paper) SUNDAY, July 18th at 7pm in the
Gatehouse!!! Yoroshikune!
•       COFFEEHOUSE!!  TONIGHT!!  7 PM!!!!  BBOX!!!! GATEWAY!!!!
•       ARTSCAPE is here!  As a friendly reminder you are not to venture into
the parts of artscape that are off campus without a TARC.  There are plenty
of TARCs that will be able to take you but be aware that we won’t be able to
dedicate the whole staff to ArtScape Trips.  Walk in groups if you check any
of those things out.  ALWAYS REMEMBER, Safety in Numbers.

URFEW FOR BEING BACK IN THE COMMONS IS 9PM. This does not change on
weekend nights. The only exception for being out of the Commons is your
scheduled studio times on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights, when you are
with your TARCs and the rest of your class.
•       Congratulations to all performers at Coffeehaus!!!  You all did a
fantastic job!!  Who knew art students had other talents?  Great JOB!!
•       Have you lost something? Left Something sitting around the Commons?
Check with your wonderful, friendly DA’s at the front desk; describe the item
so that they can check lost and found! And remember to thank them! <3
•       HEY ALL YOU GAMERS! Did you miss the awesome video game event? Can’t
wait to get your hands on a game cube controller and play some super smash
bros?! Have a sweet Pokemon team you’re just itching to battle with? Worry no
more! Wednesday, July 21st from 4:45 to 6:00 pm there will be Video Game part
two! There will be a smash bros melee and brawl tournament along with a
Pokemon tournament!
•       TOMORROW IS NEW YORK!!!! Here are some important things to remember:
Make sure you get some rest before we embark on the New York Trip tomorrow.
Yes you can sleep on the bus, but it’s very uncomfortable!  You can bring a
pillow and blanket on the bus.  It’s recommended.  You can leave things on
the bus but don’t leave things like cameras, ipods or any other valuables.
Make sure to bring cash.  It is usually easier to use cash for museum
admission and subway rides because they are quicker.  Wear WALKING SHOES.
You will be walking so much and it would be a shame to have something
terrible for city walking. Bring PENCILS for the museums.  This is the ONLY
proper museum etiquette as far as writing utensils.  Tomorrow is still a
CLASS session.  Finally, we will be meeting at 6:30 AM in the commons
courtyard.  We need to organize into classes in order to board the busses and
leave by 7:00.
•       Tomorrow will be a long day, and when we get back to the commons, we
will not be having check-in, only tuck-in at 11pm. Since we expect to return
to the commons at or shortly after 11, please head to directly to your rooms
after the buses unload.
•       DO NOT chain your bikes to the rails or the stairs.  This is a fire
hazard and your bike chains/locks will be removed to take these things down.
You can use the bike racks beneath the walkway from the gatehouse to building
3 and underneath the stairs of building 3.
•       Students signed up to go sketch at the ZOO: meet dai /Nicole in the
courtyard on SUNDAY at NOON. Bring your sketchbooks!
•       Students signed up to go to the Book thing and chipotle on Sunday,
meet Christian and brian in the courtyard at 11am. If you didn’t get a chance
to sign-up, there are still a handful of spots left: don’t miss out on your
last chance to score free books and slightly less free burritos! Take a break
from working on your final projects and go!
•       If you signed up for the farmer’s market trip, meet Christine and
Morgan in the courtyard at 9am on Sunday!
•       Chris and Rachel’s community are on clean up duty tonight! Thank
you!!! We appreciate your help!

icons, pilgrimage, relics, and magic, weaving in contemporary parallels from
popular culture. he has curated many exhibitions. At the same time teaching
courses at Johns Hopkins University, including one on "The Holy," focusing on
Elvis Presley. As director of the Walters, Dr. Vikan over saw a massive
renovation project that including expansion of the building complex and
reinstallation of the permanent collection. Perhaps one of the most
fascinating areas of the building are the rooms called the Chambers of Wonder
and the Collector’s Studio. Dr. Vikan continues this search, around the
world, for the sanctified and the marvelous that are part of the magic of art
history.
-       Remember to bring a sweater if you don’t like the cold in Falvey

Sunday, July 4, 2010
-Comrades, Patriots, Redcoats: Congratulations! We’ve made it! Another
year has passed in our nation’s history. A year of triumph, sorrow and
success. As our countries patriotic birth passes consider where we have come
from, where we are and where we are going. Happy Fourth of July!!!
-Students, please do not text in class. It is rude to your teachers,
TARCs and fellow students. If you are texting and a teacher or tarc requests
that you to power off your phone you must comply.
-Be fast, Be Efficient.  Above all, don’t be seen.  Assassins Sign up
Monday, July 5th at 5 pm in the Meyerhoff.
-Think Fells point is nothing more than a charming historical
neighborhood?  Think again! Joins u for a haunting tour of Baltimore’s rough
and rowdy past.  Walk from location to location to hear tales o f mischief

Monday, July 5th @ 5pm.  Event date: July 7th @5:30 pm.
-A few reminders from Pro Staff regarding sign up etiquette: You can
only sign yourself up for a program (not a friend), you can’t hold a spot in
line for your friends, you can not cut in line and you can not leave check-in
early to go to a sign-up. If you disrespect the sign-up tarc or exhibit any
behavior resembling this type of activity you will not be going on a program.
It is important to us that every resident is able to attend an off-campus
program but this can only happen with your help and support.
-The purpose of the sign-out log is to be able to locate you in the
case of an emergency. In addition to writing legibly, you must indicate a
SPECFIC LOCATION: listing an activity, such as “dinner” or “walk” is vague
and doesn’t tell us where to start looking for you. Dinner at the meyerhoff?
On the hill? Out on a student release with your family? In the harbor with
your residence community? Please understand that the sign-out log is in place
for your safety, and that the TARCs and DA staff are checking them regularly
to ensure that they are being used appropriately.
-THE COMMONS IS A STY. We know Fourth of july is awesome and we had a
sweet cookout today, but the space is shared and we all need to take a moment
to CLEAN IT UP. Spend the last few minutes of check-in picking up some trash.
Tomorrow we will start nightly clean-up crews, one community at a time.
(Tarcs, if the area around you is clean walk you community to an area that
requires more clean up)

To make things as fair as possible, our programs will be first-come, first-serve. All the trips will be announced in advance during check-ins, and the programming calendar will be updated regularly in the gatehouse, so keep an eye on the programs you are interested in!
